And at the same time: how a novel that was written based on these materials of reality "returns" for another look at the materials of reality from which it was conceived, as if to say: "No. In other words: a work that contains explanations of how it was made, and which demonstrates in an almost pedagogical manner how a novel was written out of the materials of reality. Perhaps it was also naive of Pamuk himself, the museum's founder, to build his museum in Istanbul and believe that the city would bow its head in devotion and gratitude to the man who built on its behalf a literary temple housing a sophisticated work of ars poetica. And I pondered another sad thought: that it was naive on my part to have expected the population of Istanbul to evince any interest in this museum, which was ostensibly built for them, and to swarm there en masse. ![]()
